Find out about these common kitchen ingredients that can serve as the natural detox for your body.

Increasing pollution, sedentary lifestyle, intake of inappropriate foods and not following a healthy life can result in a significant accumulation of toxins in our body. These toxins can affect each of our organs, make them ailing and inefficient. This is why we need to detox our body and get rid of the toxins to rejuvenate our organs and stay healthy.

Bhavani Swaminathan, Nutritionist, member of Indian Dietetic Association and a Certified Diabetes Educator believes that the natural way of detoxing is the best way to flush out the toxins that your body acquires every day.

Did you know that common, easy to find kitchen ingredients can serve as amazing natural detox agents for your body? Here are some of the easy to find and pocket-friendly natural detox that Swaminathan has in store for you.

Natural detox for various organs

Liver

Bad breath, bad taste or bitterness due to indigestion, bloating, gastric problem, a white coating in the tongue are signs of our liver getting overloaded. If you are facing any of these, take a handful of black raisins in 400 ml of water, soak it overnight, heat the water soaking the raisins and drink the same water as well as the raisins.

You could also take one and half teaspoon of Triphala powder and add it to 400 ml of water along with one-fourth teaspoon of ginger and turmeric powder. All these have to be soaked overnight and heated the next morning before drinking them. You may continue having both of these natural detox agents for 12 to 15 days to ensure proper detoxing of the liver.

Lungs

It is essential for us to take care of our lungs, especially during a pandemic like this. Anulom Vilom, an exercise that involves breathing in from one nostril and breathing out of the other nostril and repeating the same cycle 20 times every day is a great exercise to keep your lungs fit naturally. It could be done at any time during the day.

Digestive system and oral hygiene

Oil pulling which is known as Gundusha in Ayurveda helps a lot in detoxification of our digestive system and maintain our oral hygiene. All you need to do is take one tablespoon of either coconut or gingerly oil. Every morning before you brush your teeth, put the tablespoon of oil inside your mouth and rotate it from one side to the other. However, make sure the oil does not enter the throat.

This exercise not only enhances your facial muscles but also takes care of your oral hygiene and digestive health. This has to be done for five to seven minutes and once done, you can throw the oil and brush your teeth and take your morning beverage within fifteen minutes of oil pulling. It kills bacteria, reduces bad breath, inflammation and improves gum health.

Kidneys

Water is the best natural detox for kidneys. However, anything too less or too much is not good for your health. Hence, do not drink excessive water just because you have read it in some health magazine or a relative of yours does the same. Drink it as per your comfort level. The amount of water one must drink varies from person to person.

Another easy and very useful way to detox the kidney is to mix half a glass of cucumber juice and half glass orange juice with a pinch of turmeric powder (Haldi) and having it on an empty stomach. These juices have to be fresh. Also, avoiding non-veg foods and dairy products may help in cleansing your kidneys.

Garlic tea is another great detoxing agent for kidneys. All you need to do is crush two garlic cloves and leave it for 10 minutes so that the components in the garlic get mixed with the atmospheric oxygen. You can then boil them in a glass of water and drink.

Gastrointestinal tract

Dry ginger powder mixed with honey and carrom seeds (ajwain) mixed with jaggery are excellent for detoxing your gastrointestinal tract. However, if you are diabetic, you must avoid honey and jaggery. In that case, you may take dry ginger along with water or chew ajwain.

Skin

For glowing and healthy skin you must have good digestion and your blood has to be pure. For blood purification, you must go for fresh carrot juice, especially in the winters. Put a few pieces of carrots in the blender, add some water, blend it, strain it and drink. It is also an antioxidant. You can also use neem tablets which are easily available in the market.

These simple natural techniques can help your body organs to detox themselves and function more efficiently, thereby keeping you healthy and strong.
